Kathmandu, In a landmark event for cultural and spiritual tourism, the Russian Embassy in Kathmandu has welcomed the first official group of tourists from the Republic of Kalmykia, a predominantly Buddhist region in Russia.

This historic visit, facilitated by the Kalmyk government and the Russian Embassy, follows a bilateral visit to Nepal by Kalmykia’s leader, Batu Khasikov, last May aimed at strengthening humanitarian ties. The tour is designed to deepen these connections through shared Buddhist heritage.

The itinerary for the Kalmyk delegation includes the cultural hubs of Kathmandu and Pokhara, with a significant pilgrimage to Lumbini in Rupandehi, the sacred birthplace of Lord Buddha, and other important religious sites.
