
Pokhara, May 27, 2025: Kshitiz Thebe has been re-elected as the president of the Youth Communist League (YCL) Nepal, the youth wing of the Communist Party of Nepal (UML), during its 10th National Convention held in Pokhara. Thebe secured victory by defeating his competitor, Suman Puri, with a margin of 188 votes. Thebe garnered 796 votes, while Puri received 608. Puri, who previously served as vice-president in the 8th convention and general secretary in the 9th, faced defeat in his bid for the presidency this time.
Thebe’s panel dominated the elections, securing most of the key positions in the central committee, including officer bearers. From his panel, Maharaja Gurung and Binaya Shahi were elected as vice-presidents, Mahesh Chaulagain as general secretary, Upendra Shahi as deputy general secretary, Madan Bhandari and Devu Basnet as open secretaries, Nisha Limbu as women’s secretary, and Mobin Alam as Madhesi secretary.
In contrast, candidates from Puri’s panel, including vice-presidential candidates Parbat Bhandari and Prakash Gautam, general secretary candidate Kuber Adhikari, deputy general secretary candidate Khemraj Sharma, open secretaries Dhruva Khadka and Arun Kunwar, women’s secretary Reshu Tamang, and Madhesi secretary Chitranjan Yadav, were defeated.
The election, conducted on Tuesday using electronic voting machines, was organized across nine regions with 40 polling booths. Out of 1,765 delegates who attended the convention from across Nepal, 1,404 cast their votes. The overwhelming support for Thebe’s leadership reflects his strong influence within the organization, setting the stage for YCL Nepal’s future activities under his continued guidance.
